Numb nuts
Last night I watched a few minutes of the Scripts Spelling Bee, which I didn’t realize was so funny. This kid, Sameer Mishra who eventually went on to win the competition, was given the word ‘numnah’ to spell. But the way in which the announcer pronounced the word, it sounded like he said ‘numb nut.’ Sameer, with a confused and awkward look on his face, asked the announcer to repeat the word, which he did, and Sameer replied, “numb nut?” Everyone in the audience had a good laugh, including Sameer. The announcer then re-pronounced the word, exaggerating the ‘ah’ sound. Sameer was like, “Oh, numnah! That’s a relief!”
It’s encouraging to see these cover-to-cover dictionary-reading kids still have a sense of humor.
